Product Details

One of the finest free-hand, end grain/hollow form turning tools on the market.

Pro-Forme Hollowing tool is one of the finest free-hand, end grain/hollow form turning tools on the market since 1995. The cutter is specifically designed for hollowing with many unique features. Designed for larger scale projects, there are three different heads within the range, Straight, Slightly Bent and Bent. Designed to use in conjunction with the Pro-Master Handle.

Purchase with the cutter head, or for a cost effective option, purchase without and easily move your cutter head from one shaft to another. See below for scraper and cup tool heads which can also be easily swapped out and used on a Pro-Forme shaft.

Widely recognized as the best hollowing tool available. "Produce shavings, not dust!"

STRAIGHT SHAFT - The Pro-Forme Straight Shaft with, or without cutter head. The straight shaft is designed to produce the opening and remove the wood down the sides and across the bottom of the vessel.

SLIGHTLY BENT SHAFT - The Pro-Forme Slightly Bent Shaft with, or without cutter. The slight bent head for wood removal from the shoulder and down the sides.

BENT SHAFT - The Pro-Forme Bent Shaft with, or without cutter. The Bent shaft is for cutting under the shoulder of the hollow form.

  • EASY TO USE, NO NEED TO ADJUST CUTTERS - Unlike other tools you don't need to keep adjusting the cutter. The cutter is hardened M2 high speed steel that is open on one side to prevent clogging, which is a common problem with other end grain/hollowing tools. It also cuts at much slower speeds eg. 500 rpm, minimizing secondary shavings. The adjustable safety gauge determines the depth of cut and prevents dig-ins.
  • SIMPLE TO SHARPEN - Easiest hollowing tool to sharpen. Simply use a diamond file, such as the Woodcut Tools Credit Card Diamond Hone. If required the cutter is also replaceable to ensure a long working life from these tools.
  • CROSS AND END GRAIN - Designed for cross and end grain scenarios as well as dry and green wood. However, for an optimal hollowing experience, Woodcut Tools recommends the cutter is regularly sharpened and green wood is used.
  • SOILD SHAFT, DEEP HOLLOWING - All Pro-Forme tools feature a heavy duty 5/8" diameter shaft that will reach up to 10" over the tool rest. Hollow forms up to 13" deep, and even deeper in conjunction with the Woodcut Irons Tool Rest.
  • USER GUIDES & VIDEOS SUPPLIED - An extensive user guide booklet is included in the box with your Pro-Forme Hollowing Tool. User guide and demonstration videos available on our You Tube channel.

THE PRO-FORME CUTTER HEAD - The Woodcut Tools Pro-Forme cutter head, also known as the Power head, has been specifically designed for hollowing. Woodcut Tools founder, Ken Port, was frustrated by the generic hollowing tool scrapers on the market, so, after many years of design consideration, prototypes and hollowing the Power head cutter was formed. It features a unique parabolic shape, influenced by Parisian textile. This parabolic shape has a narrownose which is uniquely designed to cut end grain cleanly. The large outside curve is designed to cut the face grain on the side of the vessel creating wide shavings. The cutter is specifically designed to release the shavings efficiently, commonly referred to by Phil Irons as the "big exhaust", unlike many of the other hollowing tools on the market with round cutters which create an inefficient 'U" shape exit. The precisely designed bevel is uniquely designed to smoothly and effortlessly produce elegant curly shavings. The cutter is made of M2 HSS and delivered hollow ground. The brass gauge features a crisp edge and can be easily adjusted to control how much wood is cut and to prevent dig-ins.

Woodcut Tools recommends the cutter is regularly sharpened, for guidelines on how to sharpen the cutter please refer to page 6 of the User Manual or video below.

Additional Accessories:

  • Pro-Master 20" Handle - 20" (508mm) spigot. It has a comfortable cushioned grip for long periods at the lathe. Two handles can be fitted together for extra length if required.

  • Little Wonder Cup Tool head - The Little Wonder Head is easily screwed onto the Pro-Forme shaft. It gives an excellent finish and is most effective with curly or burred grain.
  • Irons Tool Rest - The Irons Tool Gate reduces the, usually, unsupported length of your hollowing tool.
