Simple, Accurate, Repeatable

The Woodcut Tools Tru-Grind Sharpening System was developed to make sharpening simple, accurate, and repeatable for woodturners of all experience levels. In the late 1990s Woodcut Tools founder Ken Port collaborated with American engineer Jerry Glaser to design a sharpening system that removed the guesswork from sharpening turning tools.

At the heart of Tru-Grind is a simple three-step process that allows turners to quickly return to the exact same bevel angle every time.

Set the tool protrusion – 50 mm (2 inches)
Set the tool holder leg – choose your preferred bevel angle
Set the base slide position

These three settings can be recorded on the Tru-Grind Repeatability Chart, included in the user guide, allowing the exact sharpening setup to be reproduced every time you sharpen.

The Tru-Grind system uses a single versatile tool holder that accommodates almost every woodturning tool, eliminating the need for multiple jigs or complicated setups.

TRU-GRIND ORIGINAL

The Tru-Grind Original is the proven sharpening system trusted by turners around the world for over 25 years. It delivers the core Tru-Grind experience, simple setup, repeatable sharpening, and a compact design suitable for most workshops.

Built around the versatile Tru-Grind Tool Holder, the Original system allows a wide range of woodturning tools to be sharpened using a single jig. Once the three Tru-Grind settings are recorded, tools can be sharpened quickly and consistently without resetting angles each time.

The Original Base Slide provides a reliable, compact sharpening setup and fits most popular 6-inch and 8-inch bench grinders.

TRU-GRIND PREMIUM

The Tru-Grind Premium system builds on the success of the Original Tru-Grind while introducing upgraded components designed to improve stability, repeatability, and overall sharpening performance.

In 2020 Woodcut Tools began developing a higher-spec Premium Base Slide and Sturdy Rest following feedback from customers around the world. After almost three years of testing prototypes with turners internationally, the Tru-Grind Premium system was released in 2023.

The Premium system uses the same Tru-Grind Tool Holder, maintaining the simple three-step sharpening process, but introduces several improvements:
