TURNING WITH WOODCUT TOOLS

Solid shaft to minimise vibration, Replaceable tips.

In the 1970's Woodcut Tool's founder Ken Port owned and operated a souvenir business in Northland New Zealand. Ken would often turn many of the wooden souvenirs he would sell. Frustrated with the vibration, including the finish off the tool, plus the replacement cost of the gouges available to him, Ken used his resourcefulness to design and test, with fellow turners, a Bowl and Spindle gouge that features a solid shaft and replaceable tip.
For almost 20 years this Bowl and Spindle gouge was just for the use of Ken and his network of fellow turner’s in their shed’s and club’s before the product became commercially available in 1990 enabling customers worldwide to enjoy the experience, by taking the tool, put to wood and see the shavings!

The Woodcut range of Bowl and Spindle Gouges are unique. Featuring hard wearing M2 high speed steel tips which hold their edges for longer, even when working with hard timbers. This tool also maintains constant leverage at all times, as the shaft is not being ground away over time as one sharpens the tool.  The solid shaft eliminates flex, enabling you to overhang the tool rest further if required.  A solid shaft also eliminates vibration, resulting in less tool marks, less sanding and a much more comfortable tool to hold while turning. In addition, the shaft is mounted deep in to the handle further reducing the potential for vibration.
Available handled or un-handled the Woodcut Gouges also have replaceable tips, reducing the replacement price.
