Safe, solid and simple to use, designed, tested and proven over last 30 years in sheds all around the world. No compromises made.
In collaboration with Ken Port and an international team of turners, Woodcut Tools have designed, tested and developed, over many years, the latest Woodcut bowl coring product, the Max4.
Turning a bowl from a large blank presents the turner with some interesting issues. Not least the amount of useful timber wasted in the form of shavings when hollowing the interior. The Woodcut Tools Bowlsaver Max4 enables you to produce more than just one bowl from a single large blank. What may at first sight look complicated is in fact simple to use. The unique design offers easy adjustment in order to core a range of bowl shapes and sizes with the three knives included. With the Max4 you can core bowls from 3” up to 18” diameter.
The platform is cast aluminium and mild steel, precision machined and anodised coated. It is designed to successfully manage the pressures of the coring process whether small or large bowls, wet or dry wood. A suitable tool post to fit your lathe is required for the platform. The Max4 includes a 2MT Tailstock mount, which provides additional stability. A threaded rod is supplied as a drawbar to provide integrated extra support and stability from the tailstock helping to reduce vibration.
The three knives are manufactured from high performance steel that is proven to retain shape and therefore ensure a lifetime of efficient bowl coring. Each knife includes a Stellite cutter. Stellite is also used with industrial bandsaw blades, proven to be long lasting and hard wearing. The tips are easily hollow grind sharpened with CBN or a diamond hone, and can be replaced if ever required.
The Max knife uniquely features a concave shape that provides solid support for the knife without the need of an additional tool rest, that can be complex to operate, especially with natural edged bowls, therefore making bowl coring simple for the turner. The Max knife also has additional support from a machined steel post and a bearing in order to minimise twist especially when coring hard, dense wood.
The 20” (510mm) long steel handle with a foam grip offers maximum control. The end of the handle features a spigot to fit an additional handle if further leverage is required.
The Woodcut Tools Bowlsaver Max4 includes everything you need to start coring bowls from 3” up to 18” in diameter, including a detailed guide and ready to use, planning templates, to successfully core a nest of bowls straight away. All packed in a large foam lined box, providing convenient storage when not in use. A Bowlsaver Light guide is also available as an additional purchase.
